The "Brain Tumor Fact Sheet" and "Helpful Links" sections are designed to promote a greater knowledge about brain tumors. Raising awareness about brain tumors is one of our core missions, and we feel one way this can be accomplished is by empowering everyone with basic knowledge about the disease.
Please note that these pages will be updated from time to time as existing data sources are updated and as new data sources are discovered and verified. In addition, it is important to note the limitations surrounding the data collection for this disease. Currently, there are only a few organizations that collect data on brain tumors. The Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States, CBTRUS, is the most comprehensive resource for trends analyses on the incidence of all primary brain tumors, malignant and nonmalignant, in the United States. Unfortunately, there is no national cancer registry that documents brain metastases, or secondary brain tumors. Therefore, the exact incidence of secondary brain tumors is unknown at this time.
The lack of complete data for all brain tumors (primary and secondary combined) puts tremendous limitations on researchers' ability to conduct a thorough analysis and likely limits advances that would lead to increased knowledge of the disease and how to treat it. We acknowledge and commend CBTRUS for the amazing progress they have made, but also want you to know there is so much work to be done in this area. Please visit the CBTRUS website ( www.cbtrus.org ) for more information on how you can support their initiatives.
